This is the “slope” in front of my house. Eating breakfast I saw a 2019 Jeep Rubicon coming down at a reasonable pace. AND COULDN’T MAKE THE TURN! Bailed at the slightest hint of oversteer, panicked, came to a stop, backed up, and tried again.

Growing up in the Northeast but living in northern Virginia, I see sno and feel comfortable going out. My wife always says “I’m not worried about you, it’s everyone else”. As always, she’s right.

Do you watch this, and yell at the drivers like you’re yelling at the TV during a major sporting event? I do...

“ Come on, man, flick that ba ck end out and power through. What is wrong with you!”

I just commuted through this after dropping my son off at school. On ly saw one guy wreck, but he was right in front of me so it was exciting. The roads were untreated and actually pretty slippery. Luckily traffic was light as the Fed told folks they could work from home.

I was pretty surprised Arlington and Alexandria schools were open since Fairfax County called for late opening as of early yesterday evening.

There is a fantastic Whiskey/Rum bar in StPete, Fl I can be found outside at. There is a small, crappy table, but I always get it...well, because it is small and crappy when there is a nice bar inside. However, the bar inside never has the entertainment of outside.
At the street corner of this fantastic bar is a one way road going East. I sit just slightly West. Also in this one way road of 2 lanes is a bike lane that has a small concrete divider in the far right lane .
People come flying in off the interstate and turn left here. But out of towners or drunk people think the concrete divide is where they are supposed to turn....sometimes too late. I’ve seen around 8 cars totally smash into that divide...all to my howling laughter echoing down the road.

I’m a bit further north but the snow is coming. I just want to get home before it starts because everyone sucks. I do have the 330xi on snow tires so I’ll be fine.

Not sure if serious, but Scandinavian flick is about weight transfer. If you are coming up to a left hand turn you brake and turn right to shift weight then ‘flick’ left into the turn . Braking and turning the wrong way takes all of the weight off of the axis you want to rotate into, so even underpowered and not-RWD cars can rotate. With lots of power and 4WD it is much much dramatic.

Yeah I can have fun in the snow when its in the middle of snowing and everyone is inside, but if there are other cars on the road, I stay away cause the majority of Philly drives like shit in the rain let alone snow.

Lol dude at work with his big ass diesel truck at work today when I was talking about putting the snow tires on my clownshoe and was like all I need to do is just reach down a turn a knob, and I shot back with how does that help you stop on ice? The look on his face was clear that he had never heard of or considered that AWD doesnt help in that scenario

Its so sad, but that truck is more rust than truck. It’s there because it costs money for someone to haul away. I can’t imagine it’s salvageable.

Un der the tarp is a Camaro. There’s two more in the garage. By their powers combined, you might get a single car. The one under the tarp is the older brother’s car, n ow held onto by the younger brother, to be restored someday. But the longer it sits, the harder it will be to restore...

Ah, a fellow NoVa oppo. I feel your pain.

I drove to work in my Jetta through the surprise snowpocolypse this morning and saw:

- One block from my house a woman had driven her minivan off into a shallow ditch and was standing outside the vehicle, screaming on her phone.

- A white work van, pointed the wrong direction, in a shallow ditch

- A CUV of some sort, pointed the wrong direction, stopped in the middle of the street - apparently abandoned

- A car off the road next to a stop sign

- Multiple cars and SUV’s that had not cleared their windshields, d riving merrily along

- Sports cars with summer tires just sitting at stoplights with their rear wheels spinning away

-People driving 10mph on the Beltway

- People driving 80mph on the Beltway

It was hilarious chaos for 3 inches of snow and slus h.

PS - Made it to work no problem. Of course I grew up with snow in Indiana, so I have more experience that most of the local population.

PPS - People need to learn how to drive in snow.

I believe every one of those things. It's so bad here. People have no clue. I saw someone stuck on a (steep) ramp with some slush. Turn off traction control, idiot, your wheels will stop cutting out on you

too many people panic when their car begins to lose traction, front or rear. We should really be teaching car control in driver’s ed like some European countries do. instead of just saying “if you drive slow enough you wont loose traction” because A that’s not piratical advice, and B It doesn’t prepare people for the inevitable that they will lose traction, whether it’s under or over steer.

knowing how to deal with a slide, is vastly more helpful than just being told to avoid a slide.

I took this photo back in January after a dusting. Which, apparently was a bit too much for this unfortunate Range Rover pilot. (who was making an illegal turn in the crossover between the north & southbound lanes. Ooops.)
